After you are involved in an accident, you will have to contact the insurance company to get your claim started. As part of the process, you will have to speak to a claims adjuster. After the information about the accident is gathered, fault will be determined. If you were injured, you are entitled to benefits based on the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule.

What are some benefits I might receive?

Medical expense benefits, non-earner benefits, caregiver benefits, income benefits, attendant care benefits and rehabilitation benefits are some of the benefits you might receive. The coverage is standard with all insurance companies because the benefits are provincially mandated.

What do I have to do to get the accident benefits?

You will have to fill out a package of forms. There are five forms in the package. These include the application, a confirmation of income, a disability certificate, a consent to disclose medical information and a confirmation of treatment. All of these have to be completely filled out by the appropriate person. Once you have turned in the package, you will get a written decision about the application.

Going through the process of filing a claim and filling out the application for accident benefits can be overwhelming, especially when you are healing from injuries. Still, it is important for you to get these steps done. It is vital that you ensure your best interests are protected as you go through the process. If you are unsure of something or not sure about what options you have, seeking out answers can help you with your claim.
