People who drive on the roadways have a duty to obey all traffic signals. These traffic signals aren’t put in place to be nuisance for drivers. Instead, they are meant to help keep everyone on the roadways safe while they are on the roadways.

When drivers aren’t attentive or don’t follow the traffic signals, they can harm or kill others around them. The same is true if drivers don’t follow posted speed limits. A recent case in Toronto highlights the importance of driving safely by obeying traffic signals and the posted speed limit.

The accident happened when two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Bloor and Yonge. The vehicles ended up crashing through a TTC shelter and rammed into the CIBC bank near the intersection. A pedestrian in the area was injured by flying debris. A total of five people were injured in this crash.

Police officers think that disobeying traffic signals and speed were factors in the accident. There hasn’t been any indication of what charges, if any, will be levied in this case.

Fortunately, the victims in this accident weren’t thought to have life-threatening injuries. That doesn’t mean that they won’t face significant life changes. In fact, they might face medical bills for physical injuries. They might also face mental and emotional trauma from the accident.

All victims of accidents have the right to seek compensation, even if the accident involves a pedestrian who was struck by flying debris. Learning how to seek compensation and determining how to present a case are considerations that all victims must think about.
