A road traffic accident involving a cement truck and an SUV claimed the life of a 26-year-old Ontario man and seriously injured three others on Oct. 10. Among the injured were a pregnant woman and a 6-year-old child. Authorities did not immediately comment about what may have caused the crash, but it was reported that accident investigation specialists from the OPP had been dispatched to the scene. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. near the community of Tottenham, which is located in the town of New Tecumseth.
According to a police representative, both of the vehicles involved were traveling northbound on Tottenham Road at the time of the collision. An eyewitness told reporters that the SUV was struck from behind by the cement truck as it slowed to turn into a driveway. The witness says that he and another bystander then pulled an injured child from the disabled SUV and performed CPR on her.
Emergency response personnel soon arrived at the scene, and the injured were taken by ambulance to medical facilities in the Toronto area. The male driver of the SUV was pronounced dead by hospital staff, and the child was reported to be in critical condition. The cement truck driver received minor injuries in the crash, and she was also said to be suffering from shock.
Hundreds of Ontario residents lose their lives in traffic accidents each year, and their surviving family members often suffer severe financial hardships as well as profound emotional trauma. While some of these collisions are unavoidable, others are caused by distracted, intoxicated or reckless drivers. In these cases, a personal injury lawyer may bring a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of families who lose a loved one. This legal action could seek compensation for the lost income of the deceased family member as well as expenses such as funeral and burial costs.
