On Jan. 4, a Norwich Township crash caused the death of a minor. The traffic accident took place on Norwich Road at approximately 4:40 p.m., according to authorities.

Authorities stated that a vehicle was traveling west on Norwich Road when its driver suddenly lost control. The vehicle entered the eastbound lane and collided with an oncoming SUV. Both drivers alongside five passengers of the two vehicles were transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. The accident-related injuries of one passenger, the minor, proved to be fatal. It was not clear from the accident reports, which vehicle the minor was traveling in.

The collision is still under investigation by police, reportedly. Nor did authorities make certain what caused the accident.

Many traffic accidents are revealed by subsequent investigations to be avoidable events caused by one or more factors that the law considers acts of negligence or recklessness. Factors that may contribute to avoidable crashes include speeding, texting while behind the wheel, disregarding necessary vehicle repairs and impaired driving.

These factors are can play a critical role if a fatal auto accident provokes civil action. Family members of a decedent may take advantage of their eligibility to file a wrongful death claim against negligent and reckless parties.

Wrongful death claims allow the decedent’s family members to recover the cost of various damages experienced as a direct result of their loved one’s passing. In many cases, claimants seek compensation for the costs of funeral bills, emergency medical costs and lost financial contributions to the family household associated with the deadly event. Also, families may sue for punitive damages.
