An Ontario car accident that killed a 55-year-old London man on Sept. 7 compelled the police to press charges against a 70-year-old man for his role in the crash. The man, of Zorra Township, faced one charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and one charge of causing death by criminal negligence.

The accident occurred in Zorra Township at about 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of 19th Line and Road 64. The deceased man was riding his motorcycle east when the 70-year-old man crossed the centre lane of the road and struck the motorcycle head-on with his Chevrolet. The 55-year-old man died at the scene. An ambulance crew took the Chevrolet’s driver to hospital where he received treatment for minor injuries and was later released.

Oxford OPP investigated the accident and charged the 70-year-old man in connection with the crash. He was released from police custody on a recognizance of bail after a bail hearing on Sept. 8.

Many head-on car accidents occur when drivers fall asleep at the wheel and drift into lanes of oncoming traffic. Fatal accidents can be disastrous for victims’ families, resulting in emotional hardship and burdensome expenses, such as burial costs.

A successful personal injury suit may provide some monetary relief for victims’ families after the deaths of their loved ones. Some spouses, children or parents of victims seek the advice of personal injury lawyers if they plan on seeking compensation for the damages associated with the death. Lawyers may provide advice to victims’ families regarding their eligibility to file costs and additional compensation for loss of income, loss of companionship.
