A car accident in Ontario resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man on Feb. 20. The fatal crash happened along Highway 17 just outside Marathon and involved three vehicles. In addition to the fatality, another man was severely injured in the accident, and two people suffered from minor injuries.
According to a news release from Marathon OPP, the fatal accident occurred after a westbound driver lost control while going around a curve and struck a guardrail. After the initial crash, a driver in a second car stopped to help the first driver. While the two vehicles sat waiting for assistance to arrive, a third car that was traveling westbound hit the first car.
Two men who were involved in the accident sustained severe injuries after being struck by vehicles. Emergency medical personnel transported four people to the hospital, and one of the severely injured men died while he was undergoing treatment. The other severely injured man sustained head injuries, and reports indicate that he may have been moved to a larger hospital for more treatment. The other two accident victims received treatment for their minor injuries before being released from the hospital.
A person who has been injured in this type of accident might be entitled to claim accident benefits to help them recover from the financial impact of the crash. Many victims seek a financial replacement for their weekly income while they are unable to work, as well as reimbursement for necessary medical expenses. A lawyer may be able to help an accident victim to gather evidence about the extent of their injuries and seek the maximum compensation.
