The Civic Day Long Weekend this year proved to be one of the most deadly in Ontario in recent years. All told, the Ontario Provincial Police noted that 16 people died over the long weekend. The deaths weren’t limited only to car accidents. Instead, a variety of accidents and incidents claimed lives over the long holiday weekend.
One canoe incident claimed the life of a man. The canoe that two men were in capsized while neither man had on a personal floatation device. Only one man survived.
Six other people drowned over the long weekend. All of them were males, three of whom were juveniles.
Three people in one vehicle were killed in a car accident. Those victims were all in their 20s. One cyclist and one pedestrian were also killed in accidents over the long holiday weekend.
Four motorcyclists were killed. Two of those motorcyclists are thought to have been driving properly when they were killed. One of the accidents killed a motorcyclist and his passenger.
These fatal accidents put a damper on the long weekend, especially for the family members of those who were killed. Instead of enjoying the weekend, they now have to make final arrangements for their loved ones.
When you are involved in an accident, you might need to seek medical care. When you lose a loved one in an accident, you will have to make final arrangements. In either case, you might decide to seek compensation. Learning about how to file claims and seek compensation might help to make the process a little easier for you.
