A 51-year-old Ontario man faces charges after a two-car accident on Highway 40 on the morning of Feb. 26. The accident occurred between Chatham and Wallaceburg, according to authorities.
Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police said officers were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of Highway 40 and Electric Line shortly after 6:30 a.m. They reported a GMC pickup truck headed east on Electric Line attempted to turn left onto Highway 40 when it was hit by an oncoming Ford Edge SUV.
Authorities said both vehicles were heavily damaged in the collision. The male driver of the GMC, a Dover Centre resident, and the driver of the Ford, a 54-year-old Wallaceburg woman, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The GMC driver was charged with failure to yield to traffic on a through highway in violation of the Highway Traffic Act.
A driver has a duty to pay close attention to his or her surroundings when they operate a motor vehicle on the roadways of Ontario. A distracted driver or someone who is texting and driving may not notice an oncoming vehicle and enter its path, causing a dangerous collision. Such a car accident may cause severe injuries or even death to the negligent driver and to the occupants of the other vehicle. Anyone who has been injured in a similar auto accident may wish to consult with a personal injury lawyer to discuss their legal options.
A lawyer could review the details of the crash and advise victims of their eligibility to file a lawsuit against the at-fault driver for damages. A successful lawsuit may bring needed financial compensation to cover medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and property damage.
