Authorities continue to investigate a deadly two-car collision that happened on April 2 in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401. According to news sources, a section of the westbound roadway remained closed to traffic for several hours following the fatal wreck, which claimed the life of one man and injured his passenger. Reports indicate that a second driver and two women were not hurt in the incident.
The accident occurred at 8:18 p.m. in South Glengarry when a 62-year-old man driving eastbound in a 2015 Dodge SUV collided with a 2005 Cadillac. The force of the crash caused the Cadillac to run off the road. Reports indicate that the vehicle rolled over before it came to a stop in the westbound lanes of the highway. Authorities pronounced the Cadillac’s 53-year-old driver dead at the scene.
Officers with the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, who are investigating the auto accident in cooperation with OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, say that a male passenger who was in the Cadillac suffered minor injuries. All of the uninjured parties were traveling in the SUV.
At press time, it is not known if criminal charges are expected to be filed in this case. However, if investigators conclude that a similar crash was caused due to the negligence of another driver, surviving family members may choose to pursue financial compensation for funeral costs in court. After reviewing the available evidence and creating a case that suggests negligence and liability, a lawyer could explain the process of seeking such awards, help them submit the action and represent their interests throughout the case.
